DEPARTMENT: Mechanic Shop


POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs of all fleet equipment, including fuel and electronic diagnostics on company owned equipment.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Diagnose problems with equipment, disassembles units, repairs and/or replaces parts, and then reassembles unit.
  • Performs skilled welding to repair worn or broken parts, including design and fabrication.
  • Tests repairs to ensure that all concerns have been resolved; make recommendations if further safety repairs are needed.
  • Follows verbal and written instructions, including the use of technical service manuals.
  • Ensures accurate written records of work performed.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly working area.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Lead Mechanic or General Manager.

Education:
  • High School Diploma
  • A minimum of four (4) years practical working experience in the automotive or heavy-duty vehicle field is required. Associate’s Degree in automotive or heavy equipment is a plus.
Experience/Skills/Knowledge:
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid CDL-A, CDL-B or Type 4 license Is a Plus
  • ASE certifications is a plus
  • Ability to operate various trucking equipment within Company premises
  • Have a strong understanding of risk and safety procedures
  • Must have a basic set of tools to perform duties as assigned
  • Proficient in the use of mechanized and air tools, diagnostic testing and tuning of equipment, gas and electric welding equipment and various hand tools
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing the following: Heavy and medium duty diesel and gas engines, heavy and medium duty automatic and manual transmissions, air and hydraulic brake systems, cooling system, drive train, steering and suspension systems, exhaust and emissions control, electrical, hydraulic systems, air systems, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical service and wiring diagrams
  • Possess excellent decision-making skills
MENTAL/PHYSICAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Required to complete multiple repairs with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Work under minimal supervision and high-pressure environments.
  • Be able to apply logic and reasoning to solve complex and analytical problems.
  • Use sound judgment and discretion in performing work duties.
  • Requires long periods of standing, bending, leaning and lying down, and climbing in and out of operating equipment.
  • Requires lifting 50 lbs. minimum.
  • Ability to communicate, both oral and written.
  • Attend all department and company meetings and/or training.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Mainly outdoors
  • Requires working with chemicals (oil, solvents, aerosols etc)
  • May be exposed to dusty and windy working conditions
  • May require travel on or off Island and to other Company divisions, location of inoperable equipment to perform needed repairs.
NORMAL WORK HOURS
  • Shift schedule which includes weekend availability
  • May require working overtime, on the weekends and holidays
GUIDELINES:
  • Follows and adheres to all internal policies and procedures, House and Safety Rules, and any employee guidelines if applicable.
  • Execute goals and direction provided by Lead Mechanic or General Manager.
Job Type: Full-time
Shift: Monday – Friday; on call weekends / after hours
Pay: DOE
