Alaska Air Group has released details of its combined schedule for Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, with adjustments beginning to take effect in March.

In an email to Pacific Business News, Alex Da Silva, Hawaiian director of external communications, listed the current Hawaiian routes that will be replaced with Alaska services later this year.

Alaska Air Group said the combined schedule will better utilize Hawaiian’s fleet, increasing the number of hours that its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Airbus A321 aircraft fly daily.

Since purchasing Hawaiian for $1.9 billion in September, Alaska Air Group now counts Honolulu as its second-largest hub after Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Alaska Air Group projects Hawaiian will generate more than $4 billion in revenue for the company.
Honolulu-Austin

Adjustments will begin with Hawaiian terminating its direct flights between Honolulu and Austin, Texas, on March 27.

Da Silva said Hawaiian will discontinue the weekly nonstop service “so we can redeploy aircraft elsewhere in our network,” and as a result, passengers will have to make a connection in San Diego, Seattle or another airport.

Seattle-Honolulu

The following month, on April 22, Alaska Air Group will fly Hawaiian’s larger A330 aircraft to replace one of five Alaska Airlines Boeing 737s flying between Seattle and Honolulu. Da Silva said this will, in turn, accommodate more guests and expand cargo capacity.

“Together, we will fly 20% more seats linking our two busiest hubs,” said Da Silva.

Alaska will also deploy Hawaiian A330 aircraft to fly between Seattle and Anchorage, Alaska, and will fly at least 18 daily roundtrips this summer between Seattle and Anchorage, the airline said.

San Diego-Kahului

Hawaiian will stop direct flights between San Diego and Kahului, a route it has served since 2003, on June 12. Da Silva said the route will be replaced with a second daily Alaska flight, including mid-morning and late afternoon departures from San Diego to Maui instead of just morning departures, and newly timed mid-afternoon and overnight departures from Maui to San Diego.

Alaska also said it will add three more overnight flights from Hawaii to the West Coast: Honolulu and Maui to Portland, and Honolulu to San Francisco.

Once Hawaiian ceases its service on the route, Alaska will be the sole carrier for nonstop routes between Maui and San Diego.

Honolulu-Ontario

Also happening on June 12, Alaska will be taking over Hawaiian’s nonstop flight between Honolulu and Ontario, California, with its Boeing 737.

“We are also retiming the route’s schedule with slightly later departure times,” said Da Silva.

Hawaiian currently operates the Honolulu-Ontario flights with its 189-passenger aircraft A321neo, which has serviced the route since it was reintroduced in 2021. Hawaiian originally launched the route in 2002 before terminating it in 2004.

Alaska will also be adding new direct flights between San Francisco and Kona on Hawaii Island and Lihue on Kauai.

The San Francisco-Kona route will operate four times a week starting June 12 and the San Francisco-Lihue route will fly three times a week starting June 13, the airline said.
