Notice for a Request for Proposals for The Source Magazine

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce (KKCC) is seeking proposals for the Magazine Art Director and Editor contract positions for our annual member directory and business magazine publication, The Source.
Editor RFP for The Source, 2019
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce (KKCC) is seeking an editor for its annual publication, The Source. Prospective candidates should submit a proposal, estimated fee and an outline of related experience to complete duties stated in this RFP. Suggestions for editorial content are welcome. The RFP is proposed for a one-year contract.
The Source is the Chamber’s annual business magazine and membership directory. It is published by the organization and comes out annually in January for distribution to members, their customers and the general public. It is typically a 52-page publication.
The Editor is responsible for providing the editorial content of the publication and securing photography to complement the copy. The Editor is not responsible for the content of the KKCC membership directory
Editor will work closely with the KKCC Executive Director and/or Executive Board and the Chamber’s Marketing Committee to implement the Chamber’s vision of the publication.
Contributing editor will adhere to a photography budget and deadline schedule for providing sections. Copy should be written using AP style and proper diacritical marks as necessary for Hawaiian words. The tone of copy should be objective, concise and focus on the business angle of topics as much as possible.
Editor will provide the Magazine’s Art Director with proofed/final copy in Word (.docx) electronically via email by copy deadline. Editor will provide suggestions for photography working with what’s available from KKCC staff and Marketing Committee.
Editor will be in charge of finding photo choices for the front cover, which will be decided by the marketing committee and paid for by KKCC. Deadline for Proposals is June 20, 2018. Email to marketing@kona-kohala.com.
Magazine Art Director RFP for The Source, 2019
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce (KKCC) is seeking an Art Director for its annual publication, The Source. Prospective candidates should submit a proposal, fee estimate and outline of related experience to complete duties stated in this RFP. The RFP is proposed for a one-year contract.
The Source is the Chamber’s annual business magazine and membership directory. It is published by the organization and comes out annually in January for distribution to members, their customers and the general public.
The Magazine Art Director is responsible for:
- Providing art direction and graphic design for the four-color, 52-page publication.
- Consultation with KKCC on placement of copy and page composition
- Selection of provided photos from editor and KKCC staff
- Scanning, image conversion and manipulation
- Client revisions and pre-press.
Upon final payment, Magazine Art Director will transfer exclusive usage rights of publication contents to the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce.
Additional duties of Magazine Art Director will include:
• Attend meetings with key participants either in person, on phone or virtually
• Serve as a liaison with the printer Journal Graphics to:
- Secure a print date and paper choice
- Prepare production schedule for KKCC staff and editor. Schedule will include input from editor to include proofing time by KKCC staff
- Coordinate online final “blue line” proofing
- Coordinate final delivery of books to Kona
• Place and verify ads provided by approved advertisers
• Prepare color PDF comps for client edits/revisions
• Provide and upload final version in high-resolution PDF files for printer
